glub0se :

Hi I would like some advice on skiing in St Moritz. Is it a good time to go skiing there in late November ? (24th onwards for a week) or is it too early? is there sufficient snow at this time of the year and are the slopes fully open? Any advice greatly appreciated...!

Gerard :
"At the slopes of st Moritz is the risk that there will be no snow at all that time of the year. If you have to go in November, pick an area with glacier, like Sölden. You can ski the most time of the year."
Snowraider :
"Late November is much too early to ski in St Moritz. If you have to go that time of year you need to look up on the Internet and find those places where you can ski virtually all year round as they have glaciers."
Professor :
"it would be green grass. Don't go until Christmas at the earliest"

I'm planning to go skiiing in Europe this winter and the website of this town looked good. Is St.Moritz be a good place for skiing and do people generally speak proper English ? I don't want to rely on my poor German or French knowledges.

The Main Man at Yahoo :
"Yes it is a very lovely place to go to , stop in Interlakenn and Grindlewald too."
chello :
"Its the most expensive place to be in Swiss ( i live here ), snob but beautiful, if the ski is the interrest, better you go to Valis, Verbier or Crans montana, bigger area, and beautiful too for sure"
AlpineAlli :
"I agree with Chello, it doesn't strike me as much of a skiing place as a rich-person's playground. Prince Charles skis in Klosters, not too far from St. Moritz, you could give that a shot. My husband who's the real Alpine one, would say les Portes de Soleil in Valais (and France)--but their English isn't so great."
Ina :
"Hi there, yep St Moritz is a great place to ski in Switzerland, it has nice runs and the town is gorgeous. But as the others already corretly mentioned, is it also one of the most expensive ski resorts in Switzerland. If you can afford it, I would surely recommend to go there, because it is fun to see all these rich people party there. Living in Switzerland, do I normally prefer to go to other places for skiing on the weekend: 1. Davos/Klosters - is very large and you have a variety of hills to choose from 2. Wengen (Bernese Mountains) - big enough for me, very nice town and a fantastic view of the most famous mountains includign the Eiger North Face 3. Zermatt (Wallis) - also very nice and it is stunning to ski below the Matterhorn English is normally not a problem in any of these ski resorts as there are visitors from all over the world. Ina"

I've planning round to Swiss middle of May 2007. I will start from Zurich to lucerne -Montreux -Zermatt -St. Moritz and back to Geneva. Please give me idea how to back from St. Mortiz to Geneva. Please. Please also suggest the hotel near the train station and cheap at Lucerne, Montreux, Zermatt, St Morits and Geneva.

japou :
"Take the train from St. Moritz to Geneva (you must change train somewhere, maybe Berne, not sure. Go to :, you will find the schedule and price (english version). Don't know here you are now. check nwith Swiss Tourism office, to get some ideas of hotels and prices. Since you are going to several cities, a travel agency may be able to help you better."
swissnick :
"Perhaps it would be more sensible to change the route a bit - after Lucerne you could travel to Chur either via Zurich (again) or Pfäffikon (Canton Schwyz, abbr. SZ) - then to St. Moritz. From there the world-famous Glacier Express goes directly to Zermatt! OK, that's quite expensive, but really unique... From Zermatt to Geneva, you'll pass Montreux anyway. All timetables can be found on the website of the national railway services SBB. With the last link, you easily can get to hotel offers - I'm sorry not to know any hotels in these places personally... Greetings from Switzerland!"
