Yangon (also known as Rangoon) is the largest city of Burma (also known as Myanmar), and former capital. The city is located at the convergence of the Yangon and Bago Rivers about 19 miles (30 km) away from the Gulf of Martaban. At 16°48' North, 96°09' East (16.8, 96.15), its standard time zone is UTC/GMT +6:30 hours.Yangon is a combination of the two words yan (ရန္) and koun (ကုန္), which mean "enemies" and "run out of" respectively. It is also translated as "End of Strife". "Rangoon" most likely comes from the British imitation of the pronunciation of "Yangon" in the Rakhine

I'm 4 months preggo and love crab rangoon from the local chinese place. Is it unhealthy to eat during pregnancy? I know some seafood is not safe.

There is a restaurant where i live that has the BEST crab rangoon i've ever tasted. it's sweet, and really creamy. Does anyone have a recipe like that? I have seen several that are for the ordinary. Or any suggestions that might make it sweet would be helpful Thanks!

"You need real lump crab meat. And full-fat cream cheese. I add some garlic powder, soy sauce, and lemon juice and chopped green onion. It's a great balance between sweet and salty. That's the way my favorite restaurant made them."

"CRAB RANGOON Yields 48 Crab Rangoon. INGREDIENTS: 8 ounces cream cheese 8 ounces fresh crab meat 1 teaspoon red onion, chopped 1/2 teaspoon Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon light soy sauce freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1 green onion, finely sliced 1 large clove garlic, smashed, peeled, and finely minced 1 package won ton wrappers 1 small bowl water Oil for deep-frying, as needed PREPARATION: Combine the cream cheese and crab meat. Mix in the remaining six filling ingredients (up to the wonton wrappers) one at a time. On a flat surface, lay out a won ton wrapper in front of you so that it forms 2 triangles (not a square). Wet the edges of the won ton. Add 1 teaspoon of filling to the middle, and spread it out toward the left and right points of the wrapper so that it forms a log or rectangular shape (otherwise the wrapper may break in the middle during deep-frying). Fold over the edges of the wrapper to make a triangle. Wet the edges with water and press together to seal. Keep the completed Crab Rangoon covered with a damp towel or paper towel to keep them from drying out while preparing the remainder. Heat wok and add oil for deep-frying. When oil is ready (the temperature should be between 360 - 375 degrees), carefully slide in the Crab Rangoon, taking care not to overcrowd the wok. Deep-fry until they are golden brown, about 3 minutes, turning once. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces."

I attempted to make Crab Rangoon today, and all I did was buy a can of crab meat, and used two packages of regular cream cheese, wrapped it in a wonton and fried it. They turned out completely fine, except for the fact that really all they tasted like was crisp crackers and cream cheese...I looked around and most of the recipes just called for other things like soy sauce and garlic powder...but I don't think that'd exactly make it sweet =P...If anyone could tell me what exactly the ingredient is to make 'sweet' crab rangoon would be great, thanks! Would using imitation crab meat make it taste sweeter than the real kind from the can?

"You can try adding some Worcestershire Sauce and some garlic powder. Or take a head of garlic (not just a bud) and cut a little off of the top. Put a little oil, either olive oil or canola, and if you want a pinch of salt & pepper (white so you don't have any black flakes) and roast it at 350 for about an hour. Mix this in with the cream cheese and crab and it should be a bit sweeter. I hope this helps!"

"I only use imitation crab it's really good and cheap, i wouldn't use garlic powder or soy sauce unless you're dipping them though, also you should use green onions, and egg wash."

"CRAB RANGOON 1 can (6 1/2 oz.) crabmeat, drained and flaked 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened 2 green onions, chopped 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/4 tsp. garlic powder 1/2 tsp. soy sauce 1 pkg. won ton skins Vegetable oil for deep-fat frying In medium mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except won ton skins and oil. Place 1 teaspoon filling in the center of each won ton skin. Moisten edges with water. Fold each skin in half to form a triangle; press edges to seal. Pull bottom corners of triangle down and over lap slightly. Moisten corner with water and press to seal. Heat oil to 375 degrees. Deep-fry several won tons at a time, turning once, until both sides are golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve with sweet and sour sauce or hot mustard sauce. TIP: Extra Crab Rangoon appetizers may be frozen after frying. To reheat, place on ungreased baking sheet; heat in 375 degree oven for 15 minutes. CRAB RANGOON 1 lb. sea legs or any chunk artificial crab meat 2 (8 oz.) pkgs. cream cheese, softened 4 oz. seafood spread, optional 1 bunch scallions, chopped (about 6 - green part too) pinch of salt 1 tsp. sugar 1 pkg. wonton skins 1/4 tsp. onion powder oil for deep frying Place crab meat, cream cheese, seafood spread, scallions, salt, onion powder and sugar into food processor and mix into a lumpy paste. If food processor is not available, chop crab and onions very fine and mix with softened cream cheese, salt, and sugar. Place teaspoonful of mixture in middle of a wonton skin. Moisten edges and draw up opposite corners to meet and form a package. Make sure all edges are sealed. Deep fry until golden brown. The imitation crab does seem a little sweeter but I like it also. hope these help. good luck and enjoy."

Consumers and merchants should not buy jade, rubies, and other gems from Burma until the military government ends its repression, which is partly funded by gem sales, Human Rights Watch said today. Human Rights Watch called for a boycott in advance of a gem auction scheduled from January 15 to 19 in Rangoon.
