Discussion on Pyrenees Mountains

cordefr :

There is a lot of controversy in France about the reintroduction of brown bears in the Pyrenees mountains. What are the environmental and biological advantages of doing so? The same thing has been done in the Spanish Calabrian mountains and it is certain that the presence of the animals attract tourists. But that is more of an economical gain.

"Good for Bears, Bad for Hikers."
leo_galpalval :
"Wildlife is running out of places to live and flourish, finding new habitat is essential."

What mountain chain do you like better? I've been to the Swiss Alps, and I really want to go to the Pyrenees.

carmelo_sabato :
"Pyrenees have some beautiful sites too!!"
goxy :
"I'd go to the Pyrenees if I were you, especially so since you've already been to the Alps. The Pyrenees Mountains are said to be "a wonderland to the holiday-maker", whether you're interested in hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing or simply the desire for adventure. The recently developed coast to coast long distance footpaths, Atlantic to Mediterranean, offer a superb opportunity to pass through green countryside, climbing snow white peaks and valleys of untouched natural beauty. In the past thirty years the Pyrenees have been rediscovered and is everyday increasing in popularity and becoming an alternative to the well-known Alps."
