Nuremburg - Germany

The Nuremberg Trials were a series of trials most notable for the prosecution of prominent members of the political, military and economic leadership of Nazi Germany. The trials were held in the city of Nuremberg, Germany, from 1945 to 1949, at the Nuremberg Palace of Justice. The first and best known of these trials was the Trial of the Major War Criminals before the International Military Tribunal (IMT), which tried 24 of the most important captured leaders of Nazi Germany. It was held from November 14, 1945, to October 1, 1946. The second set of trials of lesser war criminals was conducted

Discussion on Nuremburg

a-non flip :

any thoughts on the nuremburg trials? -just victors punishing losers? -biased judgement? -fair judement? -they deserved it? -were just following orders?

elaeblue :
"Any group of people who are responsible for the death of so many people need to be arrested and brought to justice. Fair Judgement!!"
charro c :
"-just victors punishing losers?"
demonfirelife :
"I don't go for that crap "i was just following orders".you could have always refused, but instead you chose to extinguish the lives of millions of men, women, and children. You always have a choice remember that.I wish they would have remembered that when they were taking lives.i believe the punishment was just."
aristotle1776 :
"The Nuremberg Trials were not 'just victors punishing losers' they were more particularly aimed at holding the Nazis accountable for the tragedies of the Holocaust. In a way the judgment was biased, considering it was victors who were trying these men (neutral states would have been more ideal, but that is the right of the victors to decide). The judgments were essentially fair, those who could have somehow 'altered' what occured were held accountable at certain points in each branch's chain of command. When millinos of innocent people are killed, the people involved must be held accountable. Any good soldier has the moral aptitude to determine whether or not he should follow an order if the order is in any way morally questionable."
adam w :
"The Nuremburg Trials tried the Nazi leaders for war crimes. They were responsible for the reckless murders of millions of people, and it wasn't just victors punishing the losers. Personally I am against the death penalty, but at the time it was considered appropriate to kill those responsible for such heinous crimes."
Robert P11 :
"I read most of the transcripts 40 years ago. At that time my feelings were to hang all of them on the spot. The reason for that is that my Mom lost two brothers in WW11. Over the years, I mellowed out a little. With the exception of a few that did horrendous things to the Jews, I believe that most of them were treated unfair. Thirty or 40 years from now...the same scenario will be about the Terrorists. I would rather see, with the terrorist, kill them on the spot! Take no prisoners."
Steve S :
"My thoughts on the Nuremburg trials is unfortunately not enough of the leaders were captured alive to stand trial and face the hangman...most all committed suicide. But I do think that of those put on trial they all got fair trials but damn, some of the crimes committed by them were beyond comprehension...did they deserve it? YES! Did their victims deserve to die? NO. Were they just following orders? That is a big cop out...most of us know the difference between what is right and what is wrong and you must be held accountable for your they deserve what they got. The Germans had a 'scorched earth' policy in that they burned everything and everyone to the ground, whole villages, records everything, so they wouldn't exist anymore. They singled out gypsies, artists, writers, Jews, the handicapped, the disabled, etc., whomever didn't fit into their plans and shipped them off to camps and ultimately to their deaths. If you were Russian and captured, well, they treated the people from eastern Europe like low life forms and the treatment they got was absolutely inhumane. So in my opinion, they all got what they deserved. And all of this is just my opinion."
Tumbleweed :

Should individual NAZIS have been charged with war crimes after WWII and forced to stand trial? Should they be blamed for following orders? in my opinion the answers is yes, but Goring had made good arguments in the tv version of Nuremburg. what do you think?

James Brown :
"Better to charge someone, then no one."
p_not :
"i think dwelling on the past is worthless. even while following orders people are responsible for their own actions.....they could have stood up to their superiors even if it meant their own death."
P S :
"The past is unchangable - BUT -- Each person is responsible for their own actions. "Following Orders" is no exscuse to comit those types of horrid crimes against any human being. as Nancy Reagan would say - JUST SAY NO!"
answer man :
"Nuremberg, was a farce show trial. Rules of evidence were ignored and the defendants were not permitted to put up any real defense. Much of the "evidence" submitted by the soviets was fake and confessions were extracted by torture."
Betty :

How did the Nuremburg Trial bring new values?

Bimba :
"Hmmm....the Nuremburg Trials, I think, were the trials that punished people such as the Natzis for crimes against humanity- for the first time in history. The Natzis in turn were not just seen as a military group but a hated one and became infamous for its deadly antics toward the Jews, African-Americans, and mentally/physically crippled."
Answer Man :
"The Nuremberg Trials were just show trials to give legitimacy to the execution of the leaders of the losing countries. This allow history to be written by one side only, and war time propaganda to be recorded as fact."

This polar bear cub was born at the Nuremburg City Zoo in Germany two weeks ago. She’s being raised by zoo workers now (they were worried his mother might eat him) and will likely rival Knut for the public’s attention.

Unsubstantiated reports have circulated to the effect that not only German industrialists, but also Wall Street financiers, had some role — possibly a substantial role — in the rise of Hitler and Naziism. This book presents previously unpublished evidence, a great deal from files of the Nuremburg Military Tribunals, to support this hypothesis.

Under the principles of the Nuremburg Trials at the end of World War Two, Bush would be indictable for all four counts established back then:1. Participation in a common plan or conspiracy for the accomplishment of crime against peace;2. Planning, initiating and waging wars of aggression and other crimes against peace;3. War crimes;4. Crime
