"Depending on the weather, I find the drive inn at Coburg a cheap and fun night out."
amatol1980 :

"Head out 45 minutes to the Dandedong Ranges and ride the "Puffin' Billy" steam train (I checked the weather and it seems that next Saturday it will be sunny with 15 *C, also making it quite good for going to the top of Mt. Dandedong and looking out towards Melbourne)."

I am currently planning on moving to Melbourne later this year, around October. I will be moving to Melbourne with 2 other friends and we are all in are early 20's ( Im 20, one is 21 and the other 22). We are looking into the best place to live. We would like to be close to the CBD and the tram system. Also will want to be in an area with other young people ,a good night life and good rate of rent.

Mel :
"Docklands or St Kilda"
cborg76 :
"Docklands is a trendy place to live as it is a part of the city so it is close to all the nightlife and restaurants etc. Not sure about how much rent is at Docklands though"
cambo.watt :
"I'd recommend any of the inner eastern suburbs, including - St Kilda/Elwood - great night life, near the beach, although a bit further away from the city. - Prahran/Sth Yarra - lots of trendy bars and nightclubs, more dance music stuff - Collingwood/Fitzroy - heaps of great pubs, cafes, live music, more grungy & bohemian types, close to the city - Richmond (my personal fave) - heaps of great pubs, live music venues, close to the MCG and city. It's also great as it's central to all the above suburbs which makes getting out and about much easier. I'm not a big fan of Docklands - it's all recently developed high rise apartment buildings and lacks the character of the suburbs mentioned above."
Wondergirl :

I am planning on moving to Melbourne in the near future and currently looking for housing. I lived in Berkeley before and I love it there, I also love the Hawthorne area in Portland, Oregon. Does anyone know any neighborhoods in or around Melbourne that are similar to Berkeley or Portland? Thank you!

dee7484 :
"I live in Melbourne - but seeing as I've never been to the US - you'll have to let us know what those suburbs are like ...... As a guess, I'm thinking Berkely, California is beachside??? So maybe check out Williamstown, St Kilda, Port Melbourne, Torquay in Melbourne."
swenson0 :
"Hardly"
liz down under :
"If you describe Berkeley or Hawthorne for us, we can tell you suburbs in Melbourne that you might like."
tuppenybitz :
"if we knew what the area your talking about is like may be we can answer your question"
princessdisaster76 :
"why leave if you don't want to try something different? Places where I like to live in Melbourne.. St Kilda and Port Melbourne are probably my favs"
