AEGuy :

I love to travel in Central and South American and - believe it or not - have heard great things about Managua, Nicaragua... and lago Nicaragua and the Pacific coast. Does anyone have any travel experience in these areas? Any recommendations? Should I consider going? What fun things are there to do there?

"have not been any of those places myself but drove through nicarauga once when i was a kid with my parents. seemed nice but not much around. a good friend tell me once that managua is very nice and progressive but to stick to the city centre cuz there are bad parts of town,, have not heard much about the coasts but supposedly there are two active volcanoes in the lake on islands."
Mariposa :
"I've never been there, but it is said to be one of the safest places. It is also said to be relatively cheap for entertainment with clubs and casinos."

"I wen to Nicaragua twice this year and i enjoyed my time there. I visited Lake Nicaragua or Cocibolca, Juigalpa, Chinandega, Masaya etc. One of the things that i liked about Nicaragua is the fact that Dollars go a long way. It is a lot cheaper than Costa Rica. I didn't spend time in Managua, i like smaller cities. I would suggest that you go there and spent a lot of money. Nicaraguans will be grateful. LOL"

Hey everyone! My brother and I are going to Managua next week and would like to see pictures and hear suggestions of what to do, what to see and where to stay. We hear that the lakes have some interesting islands that we should visit and that there are some fresh water sharks. Also we love to eat, so what dishes should we try? Anything we should avoid? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.... and let's see some of the WORLD!!! By the way, I speak fluent Spanish. Si alguien quiere responder en Espanol, esta bien. Saludos!

I will be in Managua, Nicaragua for a few months starting in February. It's nearly impossible to find Spanish group classes, which would be ideal. I haven't even had luck at the University of Central American based in Managua. At this point I would just like a responsible and knowledgeable teacher who would teach me one on one (or in groups, if that's possible). Thanks.

"Of course, there are a lot of places where you can learn spanish in Nicaragua the one I'd recommend you is "Academia Europea" (European Academy) address: Carretera Masaya, 1c. abajo 1/2C. al sur (it's in managua) Phone: (505) 270-3210"

A year after Irish rocker Bono visited Nicaragua in 1986 in an effort to raise awareness about Central American war refugees, U2 released its smash-hit album The Joshua Tree and Nicaraguans immediately recognized that one of the songs was written about their country. Twenty years later, most people here still hold as fact that "Where the Streets Have No Name" was written about Managua, a squat and sprawling capital city where... well, the streets are unnamed.
