what is the weather like on a daily basis? what are the most popular attractions in guatemala city? what is a normal day like?

phillipa_gordon :
"Guatemala is considered the "land of eternal Spring" for its moderate climate all year round. They do have "rainy" season, where it rains most nights and some days. The largest city is Guatemala City, but Antigua is charming. Guatemala is known for its Mayan ruins at Tikkal. The language of everyday is Spanish, and this is the officical language taught in schools. Many of the Mayan descent still speak a form of the Mayan language called Quiche. The money system is based on a Quetzal, which is currently worth about $.13 (US); it is named after a beautiful bird. There is a coin for 1Q, and there are coins for smaller divisions, as well as bills for larger denominations. The people are very friendly, but most are quite poor, having trouble to provide for the basic neccesities of life for their children."

"It is past imigration in a secure area between imigration and the exit. They are generally good about making sure you have the claim ticket to go with the luggage. I have been there 12 or so times and have never had any issues."
Autobot/Decepticon :
"Anything really valuable take as carry on if permitted. Your suitcase, put a lock on it definitely. Your worries are valid, but that also includes the employees at the airport. I've been there a couple of times and have not had problems but have heard from others that have first hand. Just take normal precautions as you should when you travel outside of the country."
guido1900us :
"The baggage handlers at the airport are notorious. Bring as little as possible. Anything you can't afford to lose, carry on with you. Also, be careful as you leave the airport building. Don't let go of any of your bags, even while entering a taxi. I've been thru that airport 20 times or more. Your bags "should" be found on the carousel, on the right after clearing immigration, although the airport is currently undergoing renovations."
