I'm planning a vacation in November to Fort Myers florida and I would like to suggestions on where to stay. It would be me and my 13 year old. I want to be on the beach and would like to do some snorkling. I would also like at least a 3 star property not to far out of Fort Myers. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated..... I'm not to worried about the snorkling part.....if it's possible then great, if not no big deal. I'm really just looking for a great, family orientated hotel. I have never been there and just would like some input.

The Lord of Love :
"I might suggest you go to the Sanibel Island web site...I live in central florida and find this is a perfect spot for all around beach vacations.......good luck"
letschat :
"There is not really any great snorkling there. You have to go farther south"

HI! im going to fort myers beach soon and its time to pack. Just wondering what packing lists work for you? so a packing list as well as things you always forget, and things you bring but never use! ?? Thanks! (oh, and im a 16y girl, if that makes a difference)

blues :
"Just don't forget to pack your tampons baby."
JC :
"Fort Myers Beach is such a nice place. Above and beyond everything else, make sure you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and maybe even a nice hat so your scalp doesn't get sunburned. (I speak from experience! LOL) Make sure you've got a pair of comfy sandals as well. Bring a few extra outfits with you as it gets really hot and by midday you might be ready to change assuming you're not in a bathing suit."

I'd planned a trip to FortMyers, Fl where my in-laws are for a cheap graduation present to myself...now with all the fires I don't really want to go...my husband was planning a trip to vegas which I was not going to go but now I'm thinking b/c of fires we should cancel the fort myers trip and go to vegas together it'll be a little more expensive...just looking for some what do you think advice...anyone from Fort Myers have any input on the smoke? We were planning to go on May 25th...Vegas on June 29th.

a2z_4me :
"Vegas is not "A little more expensive, it is a lot more expensive"."
Stanley K :
"Go for the beach!"
pet_luver :
"I live in St. Pete, North of Fort Myers. The smoke problem is impossible to predict......depends on the wind direction. One day the air quality is dangerous, the next day it's fine. Hopefully, by the time of your trip, we will have had some rain and put out the fires. Fort Meyers is a lovey place and you're less likely to lose your money there."
LPnerd :
"as a twenty year resident of Ft. Myers ...Go to Vegas. Save your in laws for the winter when you need to warm up! try .com I know its cheaper to go to vegas now! you just have to do a little home work. Or google search vegas and look for the officail travel site for Vegas. You will always get the best deals on the site. For cars and hotels anyway. Find a good hotel deal, then go to that hotels official site and check. Somtimes you can get it even cheaper that way. I have stayed at the Aladdin ( called somthing eles now but you can still find it under Alladin) The Stratosphere, and The Orleans for under 30 bucks a night. I am not kidding. So check it out.Just don't gamble at the big famous hotels. you won't win."
HopeBH :
"I'm with LPnerd. I work in Fort Myers and live in Estero, which is 20 miles down the interstate. This is a lovely area, but there is no way that I would miss out on a trip to Vegas to come here. But for the record, the fires are in wooded areas around the city, not in many populated ones and aren't that intrusive to visitors or even residents. Like California, they pop up every year. I would save a trip down here until it gets cold or even for spring break."
MollyKatz :
"My wife's relatives live in Ft . Meyers , if I had the money & they were 20 years younger I'd take them to Las Vegas with us ."

Here in Fort Myers, Fla., people don't ask whether we are headed for a recession. They know a recession is here. For those who live here, the questions narrow down to two: How much worse will it get? How long will it last?
