"Hi Amanitvam, No I am not related, but I do try to help people in searches like yours. Glad to see you are using GENFORUM groups - that is always the best advice, to talk to targeted (your family name) others to see what they know. I am thinking about this as I write, but the LIVING are protected by basic Genealogy 101, so, you will not find genealogy trees or pedigrees with the living decendants you are seeking. Maybe if you look at a few other Genealogy posting sites. This is actually a difficult task. Other ways are the DNA studies, since a branch of the family 'might' register, they allow communications through the DNA Study leader - you would have to get lucky on that. Thanks for making me think about this, I may be looking for decendants myself, back through 300 years of Scottish ancestors (up through American Ancestors, back down through Decendant Branches in Scotland. Good Luck to you."

"The controversy surrounding Agapito Flores The Agapito Flores controversy continues - Agapito Flores has been acclaimed by some as being the inventor of the first fluorescent lamp. However, the dates are all wrong for this being possible. The following points have been taken from "The History of Fluorescent Lights" In 1857, the French physicist Alexandre E. Becquerel who had investigated the phenomena of fluorescence and phosphorescence, theorized about the building of fluorescent tubes similar to those made today. American, Peter Cooper Hewitt (1861-1921) patented (U.S. patent 889,692) the first mercury vapor lamp in 1901. The low pressure mercury arc lamp of Peter Cooper Hewitt is the very first prototype of today's modern fluorescent lights. Edmund Germer (1901 - 1987) who invented a high pressure vapor lamp, also invented an improved fluorescent lamp. In 1927, Edmund Germer co-patented an experimental fluorescent lamp with Friedrich Meyer and Hans Spanner. So What Is True About Agapito Flores? Agapito Flores was born in Guiguinto, Bulacan, Philippines on September 28, 1897. He worked as an apprentice in a machine shop and later moved to Tondo, Manila where he trained at a vocational school to become an electrician. It has been reported that Agapito Flores received a French patent for a fluorescent bulb and that the General Electric Company bought Flores' patent rights and manufactured and sold his fluorescent bulb (making millions from it). However, all the inventors named above and more predate Agapito Flores' possible work on any fluorescent bulb. According to Dr. Benito Vergara of the Philippine Science Heritage Center, "As far as I could learn, a certain Flores presented the idea of fluorescent light to Manuel Quezon when he became president. At that time, General Electric Co. had already presented the fluorescent light to the public.""

"The Inventors were Peter Cooper Hewitt, Edmund Germer, George Inman and Richard Thayer • American, Peter Cooper Hewitt (1861-1921) patented (U.S. patent 889,692) the first mercury vapor lamp in 1901. The low pressure mercury arc lamp of Peter Cooper Hewitt is the very first prototype of today's modern fluorescent lights. • Edmund Germer (1901 - 1987) invented a high pressure vapor lamp, his development of the improved fluorescent lamp and the high-pressure mercury-vapor lamp allowed for more economical lighting with less heat. Edmund Germer is credited by some historians as being the inventor of the first true fluorescent lamp. • George Inman and Richard Thayer: lead a group of General Electric scientists researching an improved and practical fluorescent lamp. The team designed the first practical and viable fluorescent lamp (U.S. Patent No. 2,259,040, it has generally been regarded as the foundation patent.) that was first sold in 1938. It should be noted that General Electric bought the patent rights to Edmund Germer's earlier patent. While one might argue the real inventor of the fluorescent lamp, it is clear that GE was the first to introduce it. You could read The controversy surrounding Agapito Flores at "
kecoakmendem :
"The earliest ancestor of the fluorescent lamp is probably the device by Heinrich Geissler who, in 1856, obtained a bluish glow from a gas which was sealed in a tube and excited with an induction coil. At the 1893 World's Fair, the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois displayed Nikola Tesla's fluorescent lights. In 1894, D. McFarlane Moore created the Moore lamp, a commercial gas discharge lamp meant to compete with the incandescent light bulb of his former boss Thomas Edison. The gases used were nitrogen and carbon dioxide emitting respectively pink and white light, and had moderate success. In 1901, Peter Cooper Hewitt demonstrated the mercury-vapor lamp, which emitted light of a blue-green color, and thus was unfit for most practical purposes. It was, however, very close to the modern design, and had much higher efficiency than incandescent lamps. In 1926, Edmund Germer and coworkers proposed to increase the operating pressure within the tube and to coat the tube with fluorescent powder which converts ultraviolet light emitted by an excited plasma into more uniformly white-colored light. Germer is today recognized as the inventor of the fluorescent lamp. General Electric later bought Germer's patent and under the direction of George Inman brought the fluorescent lamp to wide commercial use by 1938. Lil Woman :

An October 2004 news headline in Nature magazine proclaimed, "Little Lady of Flores Forces Rethink of Human Evolution. "The article describes the discovery of the bones of at least five extremely small people on the island of Flores in Indonesia, by a team of scientists from Australia and Indonesia. These individuals lived about 18,000 years ago - so recently that their bones have not yet fossilized. They have been given the scientific name Homo Floresiensis ("Flores man"). According to the article, the people stood about three feet tall and had skulls the size of a grapefruit. They didn't have the ophysical features common among modern humans (Homo Sapiens) with dwarfism. Nor do they appear to be related to early hominids, because their teeth, skulls, and legs have characteristics that are more similar to modern humans than they are to our ancient relatives. Instead, the researchers concluded that Homo Floresiensis is a separate human species that has grown smaller through many, ma

bravozulu :
"Their calling anything humans that split at the boundary of homo 2.5 million years ago is totally arbitrary. I doubt you would call it or georgicus a human. You cannot tell from the name that it is a unique species, only that it was designated as such by the investigators. Otherwise they would have called it Homo sapiens floesiensis or erectus. There was much discussion if it should be called an austrlopithicine because it has many features of them as well. It may be a species that branched off one of the early erectus like georgicus that split from it soon after reaching Asia."
