noodle -boodle :

I know fernie is in the rockymountains but would like a map.

Mike1234 :
"Have you tried googles world search it has a 3d satilite picture of everything. If you wanted like a road map try map quest."
Mexico4me :
"Fernie is in southern British Columbia, Canada. It's a beautiful little town with a great ski hill. Check out Mapquest or Google Earth to see exactly where it is."
darcy m :
"I live in BC...looking to ski?? I just typed in Map/fernie,bc/canada and got all the information regarding road maps to and from the states... Have fun!!!"
Klondike_kate :
"Check it out on you should be able to find something helpful there."

Hi Guys. If I have a chance to go skiing at Lake Loiuse or FERNIE BC, which would be the preferred choice?? I am not really into the crowds in Banff..but the best skiing is the ultimate goal. I HATE groomed trails. I like lots of powder and glades and that type of thing. Thanks in advance

Loulabelle :
"I haven't skied either, but a friend recently went to Lake Louise, and said that it was hellishly cold. It might have warmed up a bit by now, but if you go there, be prepared for the intense cold."
Boxcar Joe :
"Often the best is harder to get to and doesn't have the groomed slopes. If you hate crowds, go to the one with the least reputation for crowds. Usually crowds DO prefer groomed, so that would solve that question. If you like ungroomed, then I imagine the weather is irrelavant as it usually is with people who like to SKI, not pose. Have fun, wish I could be there too.....LOL!"
hockeyhockey :
"I have been to Lake Louise, and enjoyed it very much, but that's because I had a combo ticket that worked at Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, or Norquay. It was a very affordable deal, and the skiing was great, but crowded. The ungroomed areas ended up more or less groomed because of heavy traffic. The thing is, I live in Wisconsin, and have my whole life, so I haven't grown up around mountains. That means I am not the best authority on great skiing mountains. I do have cousins who live in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. They (obviously) know the Canadian Rockies very well, and their favorite skiing destination happens to be Fernie. This is off the subject, but I just want to say that I really liked Lake Louise. Great skiing, compareable to Aspen or Vail, but I found the ski area crowd in Western Canada to be A TON more enjoyable to share a mountain with than the crowd around Aspen. The skiers in Canada were there to go skiing, have a good time, and mingle with other skiers. The skiers in Aspen seem to be there to look down their noses at as many people as possible, and drive the most environmentally irresponsible vehicles possible. Way to go, Canada! Thanks for being so welcoming and hospitable!"

"Fernie for sure. i was there last week (mar 7-8) and it was incredible. more snow predicted in the next few days. there are no lines and far better snow than Lake Louis. and less expensive as well. in the last couple of years they have opened up a lot of new terrain so making fresh tracks is not hard to do. the bowls and glades are huge and offer a challenge for everyone. i live in Cranbrook (an hour west of Fernie) and ski Kimberley, Panarama, and Golden regularly as well, but Fernie has the best snow this year. have a blast and make some turns for me."

"I live in Alberta but I never go skiing. I have heard from people that Fernie is the place to go."
iansand9876 :
"Tough call. They are both pretty good hills. I think maybe Fernie, but you would be happy at either."
boardbetty :
"This time of year I would head out to Fernie, Louise starts to melt pretty bad at this time of a year and you can even have rain for the day because they are at a lower elevation. Trust me on this one I have been going to the mountains riding for over 15 years and this is from experience!!"
Piratess :
"Gday - ive just returned from Alberta and BC, and I really think if you want to have more room, your better off going to Fernie, but Lake Louise is pretty spectacular! Have a great time when you get there!"
pressurevac :
"Wow, tough choice. But being an avid skier for the last 25 years and visiting both these resorts regularly, I would have to say that Lake Louise is a better choice. Even though you may find a few more people, the terrain and choice of runs is far greater. Dont get me wrong, Fernie is a nice place too, but Louise is World Class! You may not find a whole lot of powder (depending on the weather) but overall Louise scores a higher rating than Fernie. You should let us know how your trip goes!"

The swastika is a spectacularly successful piece of design — elegant, balanced, solid yet fluid. But it’s become so inextricably associated with one particular chapter of history that it’s hard to conceive of it in any other context. Displayed are photos from teams such as the Windsor Swastikas of 1909 and Fernie Swastikas of the 1920's.
