Discussion on Ephesus

Joaneo :

I'm looking for the Temple of Ephesus, and I'm confused if it still exists, or if it existed in ancient times.

economist :
"Turkey."
Claudia :
"Turkey....I was there so many times and it is very wonderful there."
BizTravelMan :
"Ephesus is in Turkey. Supposed birthplace of Father Christmas (St. Nicholas) many believe. It is featured in various travel brochures but more of the specialist ones rather than mainstream."
john b :
"The ruins of the ancient Greek city of Ephesus are in Turkey near Izmir. The temple is that of Artemis. Check your Bible for St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians."
Jose N :

Please suggest various ways of transportation from Ephesus to Antioch on Orontes, with details and reason why. example by train or by bus. By air seems impractical because the neaqrest airport is Adana about 200 kilometers away from Antioch, right?

joeluw1977 :
"You can take a bus or Train from Selçuk (Ephesus) to Izmir, and then there should be a direct bus to Antakya. Its possible that there is also service from Kuşadasi, but Izmir is much bigger. I made the trip from Bodrum, and it took about 18 hours direct, and cost about 50 lira. The train only runs as far as Iskenderun about one hour away from Antakya by bus. Also the Otogar (Bus Station) in Antakya is a bit distan from the center of town, maybe 10-15 min by taxi."
Hurricane :
"yes, you are right, you need to travel by bus so go to izmir central bus station (otogar) and get on a bus branded "Has" Has tourism is an Antakya origined bus company that carries passengers from all over Turkey to Antakya. hope that helps, have a nice trip!"

For a longer day-out visit, go to see one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the ruins of Ephesus. It is a well-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean, and gives you a feeling of what life was like in Roman times. It is said that the Virgin Mary, at the end of her life, came to Ephesus accompanied by St. Paul. Also St. John is said

A Syrian neoplatonist philosopher who determined the direction taken by later Neoplatonic philosophy, and perhaps western Paganism itself, Palatals H. Ephesus (c. 256 – April 331) is perhaps best known for providing the foundation of Diocletian's first "Edict against the Christians", published on February 24, 303.

Thanks to the amazing discovery of a mass gladiator grave in Ephesus, Turkey; forensic anthropologists Dr Fabian Kanz and Professor Karl Grossschmidt have been able to piece together a detailed picture of how Gladiators lived, fought and died.
