Dahab - Egypt

Dahab (دهب) is a small town situated on the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Formerly a Bedouin fishing village, located approximately 80 km (50 miles) northeast of Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab is still considered to be one of the Sinai's most treasured diving destinations. Following the Six Day War, the town was occupied by Israel and known in Hebrew as Di-Zahav, a place mentioned in the Exodus from Egypt. The Sinai Peninsula was restored to Egyptian rule in 1982. The arrival of international hotel chains and the establishment of other ancillary facilities has now made this a po

I WILL BE GOING TO DAHAB SOON TO DO A DIVEMASTER COURSE. I HAVE LOOKED ON AND READ ABOUT THE 'DIVE NOW PAY LATER' DIVEMASTER COURSE. IS DAHAB A GOOD PLACE TO DO A DIVEMASTER COURSE OR IS SHARM BETTER?

markos m :
"Dahab is a summer resort with beautiful beaches, hotels, food, and night life. Diving in Dahab is a mesmerizing experience, the corals and the variety of colorful fishes are amazing. Sharm El Sheikh is equivalently very good, I prefer Dahab."
Maro's mom :
"Sharm is definitely better than Dahab in everything except for prices prices in Dahab are a lot cheaper, and its a nice small city with not too much to do and not too many places to go,however I went there and enjoyed my self."
kalooka :
"Dahab is very nice place for diving. one of the best!"

"Drink botteled water. Get your camera, your bathing suit and your sun screen! Oh, and enjoy yourself! :) Your question is too general so feel free to ask again for any specific answers."
Elver :
"Just dont worry, Try to keep a bottle of water and anything to eat during your LONG journey. It will take you about 7 hours to reach Sharm el Shiekh. Enjoy your few days in Sharm, cause it's really nice city. Remember, Just dont worry and everything with be fine."
ahmed Helmy :
"take an ipod or a book u can waste your time with also take care of your passport or ID important in the way someone may ask you (police station in the way) bring little food and water any way u are going to take a rest but they are little more expensive than in cairo nothing else i did it b4"
ME :
"The bus ride is about 7 to 8 hours from Cairo to Sharm: -Make sure you have your passport with you as there is a checkpoint where the police board the bus. -Try to take a bus that travels during the day... the roads have gotten alot better over the years, but its still safer during the day. The drive from Sharm to Dahab is about 1 hour. There is a really kool dune on the road from Sharm to Dahab, about 2 km from the Dahab checkpoint. You'll see it on the left.. totally climable, and the view from top is great.. Great at night too. In the winter months Sharm and Dahab are a bit cooler than Luxor so you will definetly want to bring a few sweaters, ( this is expecially true at night). When in Dahab.. I would try and not eat any icecream, as the power goes out from time to time.. so things melt then freeze then melt again. And of coarse only drink bottled water, and try to stay away from uncooked greens/vegies. The fish is really good, and you can bargain ;-) You can also do a day trip to MT Sinai.... its about 1.5 hours from Dahab.. If you do this during spring or winter make sure if you have warm clothes as they do get snow up there sometimes ( rarely.. but sometimes :-) ) That area is one of my favorites, and I am sure you will have a great time"

Hi - hoping to visit Dahab in November, especially to do some diving. Is there anything else to do but diving in Dahab?

keaner :
"Go scuba diving... it is one of the finest dive spots in the Red Sea... in the word as a matter of fact. There are plenty of dive schools on the beach front, who cater for all levels."

"DIVE DIVE DIVE!"

"You can go to St. Catherine for a night on top of the mountain, but make sure you have good wind break for it is cold. You can go to the coloured canyon on quad bikes. You can go to the Nabq Park, Blue Hole, or walk to the Ras Abu Galoum after the Blue Hole (5 miles walk by the rocky beach) but you would love the views as it is really worth it. Plus you end up with the bedouins who would cook you the most delicious meals you can ever taste in your whole life. I am going there in two weeks, cause I just can't get enough of Sinai (Best place in the world) Enjoy your trip mate!"

After an Austrian scuba-diver disappeared at blue hole, a crew of scuba-divers located him 136 meters under the sea on the bottom of Blue Hole Dahab. but when a team of other scuba-divers, about two weeks later, wanted to recover him, the dead body had disappeared. only his diving mask and diving computer were found.

Those who like it are crazy about it. People say that there is simply no better way to explore the vast area of the Sinai Peninsula guided by Bedouins.

Acting like an aircraft wing the peninsula of Dahab spots 5 km into the Gulf of Aqaba and produces 300 days of wind from 4 Beaufort upwards, water 22°-28°C, air 20°-40°C.
