I'm going to Geneva for 2 days and Chamonix 8 days (I'm going with friends). I've never skied before. But what I'm really worried about is the cold. How cold is it going to be in Chamonix and what would you guys recommend me to bring to keep myself warm (in Celcius)? Can anyone let me know if they know where to find jacuzzis in Chamonix? And are there any clubs/bars up there? Because they're the only places I find a little warmth in Holland (aside from my room where I put the heater to the max). Oh and how much do you think I'll be spending out there? Over €50.00 a day? Because I hate bringing too much cash with me, traveller's cheques are such big hassles, I don't want to freak my parents out with the credit card bill and I mostly use a debit/chip card in Holland--and I know it works in ATMs in most European countries--but I don't know if it works at restos/stores. Are ATMs easy to find? What else can I do there aside from skiing (in case it turns out I don't like it all that much)?Tnx

"You better bring a down jacket, gloves, boots, hat ,scarf and all the good winter stuff. You are on top of a mountain and the wind is gonna blow. i am sure theres a jacuzzi someplace."

I'll be in Europe this summer and am looking for a great place to see and experience the Alps. I've heard about Chamonix, but cannot determine if lifts are open in July to the higher altitudes. Does anyone know about this? Are there any other areas in France that would be good or better to be in the Alps?? I'm looking for something with an fairly easy train ride to Paris. Thanks!!!

"Although not all the lifts will be open there will be some still working in the summer. Another good place to go is Annecy, which is by a lake and you can go up to Megeve. Have a good time."

"While I agree, I had a great holiday staying in Sallanches, near both Chamonix and Ancey. Hope my spelling is OK"
Pastor Dave :
"I'd recommend Chamonix. Going up to Mont Blanc is a once in a lifetime experience. As for the train ride, if you can travel any day besides Saturday, it will be a lot less crowded."

I am going to Chamonix on the 24th Aug and would like to splash out and take a helicopter transfer from Geneva to Chamonix. Does anyone know any good websites?

Chamonix Valley in France has many attractions aside from its magnificent view. The Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice), the largest glacier in France, which is 7kms long and 200m deep is one of the most popular tourist attractions. Thousands of skiers go down the glacier to the Montenvers Railway station after passing through the “Vallee Blanche”. A h
